The calculator provides an indicative heating requirement based on room dimensions, ceiling height, building type and target temperature. It is designed to provide a useful starting point for infrared heating system sizing. Actual heat loss can also be affected by insulation, glazing, ventilation, construction and local site conditions.
Yes. The calculator uses room volume rather than floor area alone, so ceiling height forms part of the heating calculation. This is particularly important for rooms with unusually high ceilings, commercial premises, churches and other large spaces.
Once the room heating requirement has been calculated and you select an infrared heater model, the tool automatically compares the product wattage with the required output and recommends a quantity. You can also manually adjust the quantity if your proposed design requires a different arrangement.
The room designer provides an indicative visualisation of direct radiant coverage. The colour gradient shows areas receiving relatively lower or higher direct radiant energy based on the selected heater type, position and direction. It should not be interpreted as an exact prediction of air temperature at every point in the room.
A correctly sized wall-mounted infrared heating system can provide the required heating output for a whole room. However, the radiant distribution pattern differs from a centrally positioned ceiling panel because the heat originates from one side of the room. Heater positioning is therefore important for achieving balanced comfort.
Large objects can reduce direct radiant exposure behind them. This is why the Room Designer allows furniture and other room features to be positioned within the layout. In a real room, surrounding surfaces will also absorb and re-radiate heat, so the visual planner should be used as a placement guide rather than a full thermal simulation.
Positioning depends on the heater type, room layout and intended use. Ceiling panels can provide broad downward radiant coverage, while wall panels should normally be positioned where their front surface has a clear view of the occupied area. Directional bar heaters may require more specific aiming and mounting positions.
Infrared heating systems should be controlled thermostatically. Where the selected heater does not include a built-in thermostat, the calculator can recommend additional thermostatic controls. Individual room zoning can improve comfort and allow different spaces to operate at different temperatures and schedules.
Yes. You can add multiple rooms to the same project. Each room can have different dimensions, target temperatures, heater ranges, models and quantities. The project summary combines the required wattage, installed heating output and estimated cost.
Yes. The PDF proposal includes the room-by-room calculations, selected infrared heaters, quantities, installed output, estimated costs and the customised room layouts with radiant coverage heat maps where a completed room design is available.
Buildings with high ceilings, extensive glazing, unusual construction, listed status or specialist heating requirements may benefit from additional technical review.
