What are framed infrared heating panels?

Infrared heating panels differ from traditional heating methods. In essence, infrared heating panels heat objects directly through radiation instead of warming a large area, which is what conventional heating systems do.

How do framed infrared heating panels work?

Infrared heating panels work by warming objects and people and converting electricity into radiant heat. Infrared heat is the same warmth we get from the sun. Infrared panel heaters directly transfer heat to furniture, walls and you without heating the air in between (unlike your standard electric radiator).

Are framed infrared heaters safe?

IR heater panels are entirely safe. The radiation from infrared heating is the same as the radiation we get from the sun on a bright summer’s day. Infrared rays are just one of the types of electromagnetic radiation the sun emits. They are not to be confused with UV rays, which can damage our skin and eyes with long-term exposure.

What are the pros and cons of framed infrared heater panels?

Infrared heater panels have numerous advantages. For example, they’re more energy efficient than conventional heating systems and are easy and convenient to install. Because of their slim size and dimension, IR heating panels don’t take up too much space and are quiet and subtle when running. Infrared heating panels are also very low-maintenance as a long-term investment and ideal for those who suffer from allergies and/or asthma, as there is no fan circulating dust around the room. One of the only disadvantages of infrared heater panels is that objects can’t be placed in front of them, but they can easily be mounted at picture height on the wall to mitigate this issue.

We have a 1900s terraced house with a rear "lean to" designed kitchen with a chimney and open fire. We have had a variety of coal fires and back burner boilers, some with a gas fire on the front. The chimney was always a problem due to a poor design of the kitchen chimney and its position near the main house roof. Finally we opted for a modern wall mounted gas boiler which vented through the kitchen wall. The options for heating the kitchen itself were an extension to the main radiator system or electric heaters. Like all fitted kitchens floor space was a problem. We decided to try an IR panel mounted on the ceiling and controlled through a simple socket plug-in thermostat with the intention of adding another if successful. It worked perfectly and so far we have not needed another. Choosing, buying and delivery was painless. No problems at all - thoroughly recommended.
