What are infrared bar heaters?

Infrared bar heaters use a type of heating method that heats up objects and people directly through infrared radiation. Infrared heater bars use the direct transfer of heat from the heater to objects or people without wasting energy on heating up the air in between. Electric radiators warm an entire area, which can be far less energy-efficient.

How do infrared bar heaters work?

Infrared bar heaters work in exactly the same way as infrared panel heaters. Electricity is converted into radiant heat. Infrared radiation is one of three types of rays the sun emits, so it’s entirely natural.

Are infrared bar heaters safe?

Infrared radiation is the same heat we feel on a sunny day, so it’s 100% safe and natural. In fact, infrared rays are one of the most efficient wavelengths absorbed by the body. It’s long-term exposure to UV rays (not infrared) from the sun that can cause damage to your eyes and skin.

What are the pros and cons of infrared bar heaters?

For those that suffer from allergies or asthma, infrared bar heaters won’t circulate dust in the air. In addition, IR bar heaters don’t change the air temperature, reducing the risk of condensation (which happens when warm air meets cold surfaces). Limited condensation reduces the likelihood of mould forming, which can pose a health risk.

Infrared bar heating is highly energy efficient and incredibly easy to install. Due to their small and slim size, IR bar heaters can be installed in a wide range of places without compromising on space. With low operating and maintenance costs, these convenient heaters have few disadvantages. Bar heaters do work best in your immediate vicinity, but you’ll be surprised at how powerful they are as a brilliant heating solution.

We have a 1900s terraced house with a rear "lean to" designed kitchen with a chimney and open fire. We have had a variety of coal fires and back burner boilers, some with a gas fire on the front. The chimney was always a problem due to a poor design of the kitchen chimney and its position near the main house roof. Finally we opted for a modern wall mounted gas boiler which vented through the kitchen wall. The options for heating the kitchen itself were an extension to the main radiator system or electric heaters. Like all fitted kitchens floor space was a problem. We decided to try an IR panel mounted on the ceiling and controlled through a simple socket plug-in thermostat with the intention of adding another if successful. It worked perfectly and so far we have not needed another. Choosing, buying and delivery was painless. No problems at all - thoroughly recommended.
