Testimonial - Retail Warehouse Infrared Heating Case Study

Warehouses and retail distribution centres present some of the most challenging environments to heat efficiently. Large open spaces, high ceilings and constant movement through loading bays often result in significant heat loss when using traditional systems.

Infrared Heating Supplies partnered with a major UK retail chain to design a targeted heating solution for one of their warehouse facilities, where staff were experiencing cold working conditions during winter months.

This case study demonstrates how infrared heating can dramatically reduce energy waste while improving comfort in demanding warehouse environments.

“We approached IHS to provide a cost-effective solution to install heating within a confined area of our loading bay. They surveyed the area and proposed infrared heating as opposed to traditional heating, resulting in energy and cost savings. IHS was awarded the works, installing the infrared heaters without issue, delivering and meeting our requirements..”

– Facilities Manager, Major UK Retailer

Project Overview

The client required a cost-effective solution to heat specific working zones within their warehouse, particularly around loading bay areas where cold air regularly entered the building.

Traditional fan heaters had proven inefficient and expensive to run, with heat quickly escaping through open doors. Rather than attempting to heat the entire warehouse volume, IHS focused on warming the areas where staff were actively working.

The project brief included a full-service approach covering site assessment, system design, product supply and installation.

The Infrared Heating Solution

IHS specified eight 2.4kW far infrared linear bar heaters, strategically positioned to deliver direct warmth to staff working near loading bays and adjacent office areas. The heaters were controlled via a smart thermostat, allowing precise temperature management.

By targeting less than ten percent of the total warehouse floor area, the system delivered immediate comfort without wasting energy on unused space. Infrared heat was not lost to draughts or open doors, making it particularly effective in this environment.

The result was a warmer, more comfortable workspace alongside significant reductions in energy consumption and operational costs.

Key Benefits

  • Targeted heating focused on active work zones
  • Rapid warm-up with consistent comfort
  • Lower energy usage compared to traditional systems
  • Reduced carbon footprint for the retailer
  • Complete audit, design, supply and installation service

This project highlights how infrared heating offers a smarter, more efficient approach to warehouse and retail heating challenges.
