For optimal performance, portable infrared heaters should be used in enclosed indoor environments where heat can be absorbed and retained by surrounding surfaces such as walls, floors and furnishings. As infrared heat works by warming people and objects directly, a clear line of sight between the heater and the occupied area is important.

These heaters are not suitable for open outdoor areas or spaces where doors are permanently open, as heat cannot be effectively retained in these environments. They are best used in rooms where airflow can be controlled, allowing the infrared warmth to build and maintain comfortable conditions.
