Infrared Bar Heaters

Infrared bar heaters deliver powerful, directional radiant heat designed for large, open and hard-to-heat spaces. By warming people, surfaces and work zones directly rather than heating the air, they remain highly effective in garages, workshops, warehouses and commercial settings with high ceilings or airflow. Wall or ceiling mounted for precise coverage, infrared bar heaters provide fast warm-up, silent operation and reliable comfort where traditional heating systems fail.

Infrared bar heaters are designed to deliver powerful, directional warmth in larger spaces where conventional heating is often inefficient. With their elongated form and high output, these heaters project radiant heat directly to people and surfaces, making them particularly effective in commercial, industrial and open plan environments.

Commonly used in warehouses, workshops, factories, garages and hospitality spaces, infrared bar heaters are well suited to areas where heat needs to be focused on specific zones such as workstations, loading bays or seating areas. By warming objects directly rather than heating the surrounding air, they help reduce wasted energy in spaces with high ceilings or frequent air movement.

Infrared bar heaters can be wall mounted or ceiling suspended to maximise coverage beneath the heater, while maintaining a discreet, low profile installation. Their durable construction makes them suitable for demanding environments, including indoor and enclosed outdoor areas where reliable performance is required.

Suitable applications

Infrared heating is suitable for both domestic and commercial spaces, particularly in environments where traditional heating systems are inefficient or costly to run. By heating people and surfaces directly rather than warming the surrounding air, infrared provides a more targeted and energy efficient way to heat a space.

This approach makes infrared heating especially effective in rooms with high ceilings, open layouts or intermittent use, while remaining adaptable to different room sizes and usage requirements. With discreet designs and advanced control options, infrared heating integrates easily into both modern interiors and demanding commercial environments.

Why Choose Infrared Heating?

Far infrared heating delivers comfortable, even warmth by heating people and surfaces directly. This results in lower running costs, improved comfort and a healthier indoor environment.

Control infrared heaters with a smart thermostat

Control your heating with smart thermostats

Infrared bar heaters offer flexible temperature control depending on the model. Some heaters include a built in thermostat for simple, self contained operation with a remote or via a app.

Models without a built in thermostat can be paired with an external thermostat to enable scheduling, timer functions and app or wall mounted control. Our smart thermostat is ideal where multiple heaters need to be controlled together.

Built in thermostat models suit straightforward installations, while external thermostats are better suited to larger spaces where greater control is required.

Are infrared bar heaters expensive to run?

Infrared bar heaters are not expensive to run when used correctly. They deliver powerful, directional heat directly to people and work areas, avoiding the inefficiency of heating the surrounding air.

Running cost example:
If your electricity costs £0.20 per kWh, an 1800W infrared bar heater would cost around 36p per hour when running at full output (1.8 kW × £0.20).

Actual running costs depend on room size, insulation, ceiling height and how the space is used. For a full breakdown, see our guides on infrared heating running costs and compare infrared against traditional heating.

Installation & maintenance

Infrared bar heaters are designed for high level installation, providing powerful, directional heat for larger spaces. Due to their high surface operating temperature, bar heaters must be installed safely out of reach at a minimum height of 1.8 metres to eliminate the risk of accidental contact.

The Infrared bar heaters are intended for use in fully enclosed indoor spaces only. For effective performance, all four walls should be enclosed so that heat can be absorbed and retained by surrounding surfaces. Doors may open occasionally, but spaces with permanently open sides, exposed outdoor conditions or uncontrolled airflow are not suitable.

Each heater is supplied with adjustable mounting brackets, allowing for wall or ceiling installation. The brackets can be angled to direct heat precisely where it is needed, making bar heaters well suited to targeted heating applications in both domestic and commercial environments.

Lower wattage models are supplied with a standard UK 13 amp plug for straightforward installation. For a permanent and discreet finish, we recommend hardwiring these heaters to the mains via a fused spur. Higher output models are supplied without a plug and must be hardwired to an appropriately rated fused spur in accordance with electrical requirements.

Infrared bar heaters contain no moving parts and require no routine maintenance. The heater surface can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth once the unit has been switched off and allowed to cool.

Warranty & peace of mind

All infrared heaters supplied by Infrared Heating Supplies are covered by a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty for added peace of mind. This warranty applies to products installed and used in accordance with the supplied instructions.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects and faults under normal operating conditions. Full warranty terms and coverage details are provided with each product, and our team is available to assist in the unlikely event of a fault.
