Hackney Bridge and Peckham Levels are large multi-use hospitality destinations in London, combining food, drink, retail and creative spaces within substantial open-plan buildings.
Heating spaces of this scale presents a particular challenge. Large internal volumes, high ceilings and open layouts mean the heating system needs to be designed around where customers actually spend their time, while also working with the industrial character of the buildings.
High-output infrared bar heaters were selected to provide radiant heating across key occupied areas, with a total of 12 × 3kW heaters providing 36kW of installed heating output.

The Project
Hackney Bridge and Peckham Levels are large, multi-use destinations incorporating street food vendors, bars, cafés, independent businesses and creative spaces.
The scale and open-plan nature of the buildings meant the heating solution needed to work across substantial concrete interiors while remaining suitable for busy customer-facing environments.
Appearance was also important. Any heating equipment introduced into the venues needed to complement their industrial design rather than adding bulky equipment that would interfere with the use or appearance of the space.
The Heating Challenge
Large hospitality and entertainment venues have very different heating requirements from conventional rooms. High ceilings, substantial internal volumes, open layouts and regular movement through entrances can all affect how a space responds to heating.
Rather than approaching the project solely around the total volume of air within the buildings, the heating design focused on providing radiant warmth across the areas where customers sit, dine and gather.
The Infrared Heating Solution
Infrared Heating Supplies specified high-output linear infrared bar heaters for the project, positioned around the occupied areas of the venues.
In total, 12 × 3kW infrared bar heaters were specified, providing 36kW of installed heating output.
Infrared heaters transfer radiant energy to people, objects and surfaces within their coverage area rather than relying primarily on heating and circulating the surrounding air. This provides a practical approach for large open spaces where targeted heating of occupied areas is an important part of the system design.
Heating that works with the interior
The slimline format of the infrared bar heaters allowed them to be incorporated into the industrial interiors without taking up valuable floor space or introducing conventional radiators around the customer areas.
This was particularly important for venues where seating, dining and circulation space needs to remain flexible.
The Result
The completed installation provides high-output radiant heating across key areas of the venues while maintaining the industrial appearance of the buildings.
The Hackney Bridge / Peckham Levels team describes the heaters as a “perfect fit” for the large concrete environment.
