Can Infrared Heating reduce the spreading of viruses?

Seeing as it’s flu season and we’re dealing with the latest outbreak of the new Coronavirus disease, COVID-19, we’ve been thinking about how we can take precautionary measures to reduce our risk of catching illnesses. Of course, there’s the standard procedures we’ve all been told hundreds of times such as washing our hands more frequently, not touching our faces and avoiding crowded spaces. But have you ever considered how your heating could be spreading germs, dust and diseases?

Traditional convection heaters work by heating the air, causing it to circulate around the room and warm the surroundings. Unfortunately, this is the number one way to also increase dust circulation (full of dirt, germs and mites) and spread it into the surrounding area. It’s the main reason why convection heaters are the worst possible option for people with respiratory conditions as it makes it even more difficult for them to breathe and increases their coughing.

Thankfully, we have a solution: Infrared Heating Panels. Infrared heaters are different to conventional heaters because instead of heating the surrounding air, they heat the fabric of the building and objects. This makes the heat clean and safe as 50-60% of the heat is directional, which creates a natural rather than mechanical convection. It also means that infrared heating is more efficient than conventional heaters and the heat feels like natural rays from the sun, so you can emulate that feel-good factor in your homes or offices.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that viruses thrive in colder weather, hence why there is always an exponential growth in the number of people with illnesses over Winter. According to a study carried out by researchers at Yale, cold viruses, such as rhinoviruses, thrive much better at the low temperatures inside our noses. Moreover, when temperatures drop, so does the nose’s ability to fight off infections. Using infrared heating inside your homes or offices can tackle this issue by killing the viruses which thrive in colder conditions.

Infrared heating has another massive benefit of causing far less damp and mould than traditional heating. Due to infrared panels heating the fabric of the building rather than the air, it stops moisture being carried around your room, so less mould will be formed. Mould is a huge cause for respiratory problems, infections, and allergies. So, infrared heating is a win-win; not only is it good for your own well-being, but it’s also good for your home’s health too!
