Testimonial - Infrared Heating for Equestrian Facilities at Green Lane Farm
Heating equestrian facilities is about more than keeping temperatures comfortable. For horses, warmth plays an important role in muscle health, recovery and overall wellbeing, particularly during colder months and around foaling periods.
This case study explores how Infrared Heating Supplies worked with Green Lane Farm in Surrey to deliver a safe, energy-efficient heating solution designed specifically for stables and equestrian environments.
By replacing an inefficient gas heating setup with targeted infrared warmth, the farm was able to create a comfortable environment for both horses and handlers while reducing energy waste and running costs.
I had experienced the heater at another equestrian property. I was impressed with how quickly the device heated up & that it gives a comfortable warmth to the area where we were working with our horses.
I bought the heater because I wanted to create a warm environment for my horses when they were using equipment, in our case an indoor treadmill, in the winter. This is to prevent muscle injury in cold weather. More recently, we have a mare who is due to foal any day now - we wanted to create a warm & comfortable environment for her. The heater is now in her stable area. She is enjoying standing near the heater & looks very relaxed; she also has plenty of room to move away from it should she need to.
The heater is working very well for us & I have requested a second one be sent out to me.
Project Overview
Green Lane Farm required a heating solution that would provide direct warmth within stable areas without causing disturbance, draughts or safety risks. The existing gas heating system was inefficient, costly to run and poorly suited to the layout of the stables.
In addition to general comfort, the farm needed to create a warm, controlled environment for a mare approaching foaling, where cold conditions could increase the risk of muscle strain and discomfort.
Infrared Heating Supplies carried out a site assessment to understand the layout of the stables, daily routines and safety considerations. Traditional convection heaters were ruled out due to inefficiency and potential disturbance to the animals.
The Infrared Heating Solution
Infrared heaters were installed to provide fast, direct warmth to specific working and resting areas within the stable. Unlike gas or fan-based heaters, infrared systems deliver radiant heat that penetrates muscles without overheating the surrounding air.
This made the solution particularly effective for equestrian use, supporting muscle relaxation, injury prevention and recovery after exercise. Careful placement ensured the heaters were positioned safely out of reach, while still allowing horses to move freely and comfortably within the space.
The success of the installation led Jayne to order an additional heater, reinforcing the effectiveness and suitability of infrared heating for equestrian environments.
Key Outcomes
- Improved comfort and wellbeing for horses in colder conditions
- Reduced reliance on inefficient gas heating
- Targeted warmth without draughts or air movement
- Energy-efficient operation with lower running costs
- Safe installation designed specifically for stable environments
This project demonstrates how infrared heating can provide a safe, practical and welfare-focused heating solution for equestrian centres, farms and stables.
